The Golden Retriever is first and foremost a devoted family companion. The desire to please his family (and just about everyone else!) is always the Goldens goal. The Golden Retriever is very intelligent and easily trained. His temperment is friendly, reliable and trustworthy. This combination of intelligence and loyalty make them an excellent choice as a family companion.
The striking gold color is the hallmark of the Golden Retriever and can range from a very light gold to a rich dark gold. The Golden Retriever is a medium sized dog with a dense water-repellant double coat. He has a beautiful, broad head with a soft, friendly expression.
The Golden Retriever is eager, loving and very playful. They will fetch balls and sticks, swim and play outdoors for hours on end but are also very content laying at their owners feet or on their bed! Goldens are not particularly aggressive, territorial or destructive. They do love to carry things around in their mouths, be it a ball, a toy or your favorite shoe! While the Golden will sound alarm with a few barks when someone knocks on the door, he is not the best guard dog as he knows no stranger, he will greet everyone with a friendly lick.
